Long since 'Alice In Wonderland,' people are still creating many Wonderland inspired things. Wonderland themed music is one of many things. What is neat about the music, in my opinion, is how, for one theme, none of the songs are quite the same. Some examples I have, are:
'Alice Underground' by Avril Lavigne
'Wonderland' by Natalia Kills
'Wonderland' by Taylor Swift
Mad Hatter by Melanie Martinez.
To compare the songs, I thought about their lyrics, genre style, and a note for each one. Unsurprisingly, none of them were the same. 'Alice Underground' The first one I decided to look at, is Alice Underground by Avril Lavigne. Lyrics: I found myself (myself) in Wonderland Get back on my feet again Is this real? (Is this real?) Is it pretend? (Is it pretend?) I'll take (I'll take) a stand (A stand) until (Until) the end
Style: This is more from the point of view of Alice. Note: It was used in Tim Burton's Alice In Wonderland.
'Wonderland' The second one I decided to look at, is Wonderland by Natalia Kills. Lyrics: I'm not Snow White, but I'm lost inside this forest. I'm not Red Riding Hood, but I think the wolves have got me. Style: Less Wonderland themed, and more fairy tale themed in general. Note: Not really about Wonderland as mentioned above; several meanings to this one...
'Wonderland' The next one I decided to look at, is Wonderland by Taylor Swift. Lyrics: We found wonderland You and I got lost in it And life was never worse but never better Eh eh
Style: Mainly Wonderland based, some other influences. Note: Although it has a main Wonderland theme, I would assume that it could also have another meaning to it; We all know how Taylor Swift's songs usually are, but this one seems unique being based on a theme like Wonderland.
'Mad Hatter' The final one I decided to look at, is Mad Hatter by Melanie Martinez. Lyrics: I'm nuts, baby, I'm mad, The craziest friend that you've ever had You think I'm psycho, you think I'm gone Tell the psychiatrist something is wrong Over the bend, entirely bonkers You like me best when I'm off my rocker Tell you a secret, I'm not alarmed So what if I'm crazy? The best people are All the best people are crazy, all the best people are
Style: Actually Wonderland based, with a much darker and crazier theme. Note: Mad Hatter is definitely my favorite of the Wonderland themed songs, because It's the only one that is Actually Based On The Mad Hatter Himself! Most of them are from the point of view of the singer, or Alice; but almost never the Mad Hatter. I also like this one, because it's based less on the fantasy and loveliness of Wonderland, and more about the dark and psycho side of Wonderland.
DISCLAIMER:I do not own any of these songs, or their lyrics. They belong to Avril Lavigne, Natalia Kills, Taylor Swift, and Melanie Martinez.
